At Magna Park Lutterworth, Europe’s largest logistics and distribution park, Electroway has opened its new charging hub for electric trucks. The driver facilities come from bk World: with eleven cubes, it is the largest lounge the company has delivered to date. Lutterworth is the first joint site of bk World and Electroway and the second bk World lounge in the UK.

Electroway develops charging infrastructure in the UK specifically for operators of electric truck fleets. In Lutterworth, solar power, battery storage, high-power charging, security services and access control work together as one system. The hub comprises 180 secure, bookable truck parking spaces, 32 bookable DC charging bays rated from 150 to 400 kW (MCS on request), security infrastructure to TAPA PSR Level 2 and a park-wide 24/7 response service. Booking and payment are handled via Bosch, Travis and SNAP, and for long-term contracts Electroway offers fixed per-kW pricing for more than a year.

For truck drivers, the charging stop and the legally required rest period coincide. How well that break can be spent therefore helps decide whether a site works day to day for fleet operators and their drivers. In Lutterworth, the bk World lounge is the heart of the driver area and is open 24 hours a day.

The lounge consists of two separate, clearly distinct buildings: a lounge building and a dedicated washroom building. Inside the lounge building, drivers find a modern yet comfortable atmosphere with seating where they can enjoy a meal in peace or simply relax during their break. The centrepiece is the bk Robotic Vending System: orders are placed on a large touchscreen terminal, after which a robotic arm dispenses snacks, drinks and ice cream as well as groceries, toiletries and tobacco products. Drivers who want a hot meal can buy dishes such as mac ’n’ cheese, mushroom risotto or spaghetti bolognese directly at the terminal. One of the four built-in microwaves automatically reads the QR code on the packaging and selects the right programme. Two coffee machines, a fridge, a freezer and a wheelchair-accessible toilet complete the offer, and two Nintendo Switch consoles with Mario Kart are on hand for a break in between.

The washroom building is designed for longer stays and multi-day trips. It offers eleven showers, eight for men, two for women and one accessible, plus seven toilets and three urinals. Two washing machines and a dryer allow drivers to take care of their laundry on the road. A fridge stocked with snacks is available here too.

The site sits in the so-called Golden Triangle, enclosed by the M1, M6 and M69 motorways. Around 85 per cent of the UK population can be reached from here within four and a half hours by truck. Roughly 40 per cent of the companies at Magna Park have set net zero targets, creating demand for electric freight right on the doorstep.

For the official opening on 14 October 2026, Electroway welcomed guests from freight, energy and infrastructure to Lutterworth, from fleet operators and hauliers to commercial vehicle manufacturers and charging infrastructure specialists, as well as project developers, investors and decarbonisation leads. Following the official opening by Tylor Hartwell, electric trucks charged live at the 400 kWh charge points, and the TAPA PSR Level 2 access and security technology was demonstrated in live operation. Guests explored the driver area with its parking, lounge, showers and laundry at their own pace. The bk World lounge was in operation throughout the day, serving visitors hot food and drinks so they could experience it exactly as drivers will in their everyday routine. Alongside the bk World team, Bosch, Kempower and other technology and project partners were on site.

“A truck break is no ordinary stopover. It is often the only moment in the day when a driver can really switch off. That takes hot food, good coffee and a place where you are happy to spend time. In Lutterworth, we combined eleven cubes for this, more than ever before at a single site. In Electroway, we have a partner that approaches electric freight from the driver’s perspective,” says Gerold Wolfarth, CEO of bk World.

Following the opening in Newcastle/Gateshead with Fastned, bk World continues to grow its UK presence and, with Lutterworth, moves into the setting of a major logistics hub for the first time. The modular cube concept now scales from car charging parks to sites for heavy goods traffic.
